Wrestling program Objectives

  1. To have fun while developing fundamentals of wrestling.
  2. To develop self confidence in each wrestler.
  3. To develop the concept that success is related to effort, not score.
  4. To develop team loyalty and sense of responsibility.
  5. To develop a good sportsmanship and attitude.
  6. To develop proper physical, mental and social development.

In these classes we focus on achieving social skills, hand-eye coordination, balance, physical development and of course lots of fun. This program is comprised of one hour classes once a week over a 10 week period.

Focus on Skills – Instruction is designed to develop and maintain the 5 components of health-related fitness: aerobic capacity, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

Spotlight on Techniques – Instruction will develop wrestling-specific skills, rhythmic competency, and social skills. Students practice basic skills and apply strategies during individual skill builders, partner challenges, and small modified games. Program engages students in active challenges that require problem-solving, communication, and social values.

Game play is regularly incorporated into each.

Warm-up and cool-down activities that require little explanation are integrated into the main lesson rather than being separate components. For example, children can warm up for a tag game by first using walking as the locomotion skill and then progress to running.

They use little or no equipment, are fun and challenging, and promote health-related fitness.

The Wrestling Program encourages positive interactions (i.e., "good sporting behavior") in all activities. Both good sporting behavior and skill performances are reinforced during classes; and games throughout the manual are modified to promote the development of positive interaction skills.
